Contextual approach 1

Sneak peak of our scene.

FYI, its not the real photos, its just photos from Google and other sources that similar to our scene.

VENUE :

1) Rooftop, the first meeting/meet up.

Rooftop, the most calming and quiet place to release your mind.
Its high.
Can feel the wind blowing, natural air.
Journalist meet up with the Blogger at night.
Have privacy, no interruption.
Only buildings lights can be seen, reflected on half of their faces.
Rooftop is the best place to meet up for a private meeting/meet up because people cant really see who's at the rooftop from below.

This is the Blogger.
A WEIRDO, BUT she's the one that have been studying/investigate everything about the Journalist, like the movements and others.
A wacky blogger, wearing a lacy shirt, long black pants and black boots.

Rule of Thirds :
Characters placed on the side of the frame on intersection points.
Make the viewer focused on the 2 peoples from the blurred city lights.

2) Tunnel

How the genre can contribute to design?

Everything is in black and white in Noir films.
To focus on certain points, easy to be seen and differentiate the perspective.
In the sense of visual communication, the tunnel will be taken with only one light present at the end of the tunnel.

Lights at the end of the tunnel, theres still hope & way to go out from the dark places.
The journalist feels calm when see the lights, theres a chance for her to escape.
BUT...
The lights fooled her.
Its a dead end.
NO WHERE TO RUN, except running backwards to the tunnel.

The silhouette created by the lights that communicate to the audience.
Makes it more scarier.
Easily focus/detect the character's body movement/language, as the Journalist panics and trying to figure out way out.
By this, itll make the viewer confuse and eager to know whats gonna happen next.

COMPOSITION VALUE

Different tones of black and white create different feelings.
High contrast light is easier to differentiate the objects.
Different shades of grey, using various brightness of lights.

Various kinds of compositions can affect the outcome of the scenes.
Some will make it good.

Unpleasant effect, but it makes the effect nice.

Leaving a little shadow and space, would be great.
Makes it more mystery and dramatic.

METAPHORS AND ANALOGIES

In our film, there will be a lot of hidden messages.
Some objects are the signs to create more context in the story.
The presence of the technologies signified the presence of the Blogger investigate/finding out more bout the Journalist's movements.

MAKING OUR OWN CULT FILM

THE CULT

Basically in the previous post, Ive explained whats the meaning of cult and stuff. This time, Mr Charles asked us to make our own cult movie. Theres me, Lisa, Jamie and Ailsa in a group. So ill tell you guys more, maybe bout this cult movie. Dont want to put it all here cause we all wanna surprise you guys whats gonna happen. We gonna put the main points. HERE WE GO...Ohmygod..Wait, no. Wait, alright alright. Haha. Soooo...

The cult is a cult full of seekers. They seek for more knowledges/informations/answers to the world from some artworks whom they believe they have been formed into codes. So, they steal codes to practise so that they can get more ways to decode the biggest coded mystery.

Thats pretty much the visualisation of the story.

Now Im gonna talk about the characters.
- Reporter
-Blogger
-Cult (seekers)

REPORTER

- people who are trying to go against globally and influential things.
- smart, tries to seek out for more 'truth'.

BLOGGER

Extremely absorbed in culture/phenomenon, believes nothing should go against it, even goes crazy!

THE CULT (SEEKERS)

- High authorities that manipulate everything.
- Thirst so much for knowledge, they would do anything/everything to get more.

OUR REFERENCE

Yep this movie kinda inspired us like how our cult movie gonna be and to get some ideas.

TIMELINE OF OUR CULT MOVIE

The cult steal the code, then the reporter investigate about it. During investigation, she comes across a very insightful blog written by an anonymous blogger. She goes to find blogger. Cult notices reporter's intelligence useful for their code-breaking, requests reporter to join them. Reporter knows nothing about this and continues making visits to blogger to extract more background about cult as so far, cult has only given her orders to carry out their work - to solve the stolen code. Thus, to help the cult achieve their goal, blogger pushes reporter deeper into the cult whereby she gets used. When there was no use for the reporter to be in the cult anymore the reporter realises what is going on and tries to leave. Cult dont want to take any risk, not telling anyone bout what theyre doing so they killed the reporter. The new information was tested on breaking the ultimate code and it was successful, so cult carries on with learning the new knowledge to be presented to their leader. They mapped out everything and meet at a secret location. On the eve of transferring what has been discovered, blogger appears.

The trigger gets pulled. BANGGGGGGG! ....... ;)

IDEATION VISUALS

This scene will be at Pangkor Island cause we'll be going there.

This is only the ideation visuals. So we might add or minus some of the scenes.

THIS IS THE FINAL ONE.
Some of the scenes.

RUNNING FOR DEAR LIFE

Wobbly cameras are used to create the same effect of the unstable, building up scared feeling. Some scenes were used whereby the camera only shoots the ground on a shaky pace with haggard panting sounds. This can increase tension while not providing any music in the background as the main character tries to run away from whatever was chasing her.

At a car park. Character thats sprinting endlessly. It gives the silent suspense and a possibility that someone is already there, watching her every move as she blindly runs into her death.

ONE OF THE RUNNING SCENES

IDEA VARIATIONS.

Long and curved space to give the running character more areas to explore.

CCTV ROOM

NARRATIVE SEQUENCE

From the pictures we have obtained, we sketch out our drafted ideas. Each person deals with a different scene.

IM DOING 3 SCENES.

Our storyboard.
Each person has different scenes to draw out and we pieced them together.

CULT

~CULT~

A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.

This is the religious cult
Freemasons : The silent destroyers - deist religious cult based on the Knights Templar

" ...these people can poison every part of a person's life." said by Christian ex-masonic judge, 'Christopher'.

This is the cult religion by Senile Robot

Top 5 weird cults & religions:

This is the Oneida Sex Community

The Oneida Community was found by John Humphrey Noyes in 1848 in Oneida, New York. The guy believed that Jesus returned on Earth in the year 70, so that enables everyone to achieve spiritual perfection in this life in addition to Heaven. However, the spiritual highness is not the only thing in which the community members are interested. They’re all married to each other, so everyone can have sexual intercourse with anyone because according to them, that’s the way of achieving higher spiritual merit.

This is the Nuwaubianism

Nuwaubianism was created in 1970’s by Dwight York, who in prison now for money laundering and child molestation. The system of beliefs of this religion is absolutely weird. According to the believers, the white people were created as a race of killers which should serve to black people as slaves, but something went wrong and the history was changed. Among the other beliefs are those that women existed for many generations before they invented men through genetic manipulation, it is important to bury the afterbirth so that Satan does not use it to make a duplicate of the recently-born child, Nikola Tesla came from the planet Venus, homo sapiens is the result of cloning experiments that were done on Mars using Homo erectus and many other crazy “facts.”

This is the Nation of Yahweh

The members of the Nation of Yahweh belief system have a little bit different view on human history or maybe they just lack it. According to their thoughts, Black people, particularly Afro-Americans, are the true Israelites. Therefore, the main goal of this religion is to secure a return of the “true Israelites” to Israel. People who now populate Israel are white, so they’re “white devils” who had occupied the land of blacks. The founder of this group was accused for racism by many people, but he still claim that he was here to accomplish a mission of vanquishing whites.

This is the The Church of All Worlds

This is a neo-pagan religious group which tries to revive the goddess Gaya by means of constant spiritual evolution of its followers and to reunite all the children of the goddess. This movement was started in 1962 by a group of friends, inspired by the SCI-FI novel Stranger in a Strange land by R. Heinlen and by self-actualization concepts of a renowned American psychologist. It obtained recognition as a church in 1968, being the first cult of this kind to have achieved this performance. The movement is still active today, as ‘The Third Phoenix Resurrection of the Church’.

This is the The Children of God Cult

The Children of God was a cult founded in 1968 and led by David Brandt Berg, a.k.a. “Moses David”, “Mo”, “King David”, “Father David”, “Chairman Mo”, “David Fontaine”, “Dad”, and “Grandpa”. Along with the Moonies and Synanon they were one of the main groups which prompted rising concern over cults in the early 1970s, which continues to this day.  The group’s liberal sexuality led to concerns and investigations regarding child abuse. The High Court of Justice, Family Division, in the UK found there to be “widespread sexual abuse of young children and teenagers by adult members of “The Family.” Apart from their teachings on sexuality and slavish devotion to the leadership of David Berg, their theology was consistent with fundamentalist Christianity. New converts memorized scripture, took Bible classes, and were expected to emulate the lives of early Christians while rejecting mainstream denominational Christianity.

This is the Cult of Maria Lionza

Venezuelan religion draws thousands to mountainside

rituals for purification and guidance. Some studies show

that about one third of Venezuelans from all social strata

 have participated in the cult.

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

->Industrial Revolution<-

The complex of radical socioeconomic changes, such as the ones that took place in England in the late 18th century, that are brought about when extensive mechanization of production systems results in a shift from home-based hand manufacturing to large-scale factory production.

Train

Steam engine

The first commercial steam engine appeared in 1698. James Watt improved Newcomen's steam engine in the 1760's and in 1875, he done doing it, by using heat more efficiently with less fuel. He used iron and coal. Coal was used to power the steam engines and to make iron, while iron was used to improve machines and tools, and also to build bridges and ships. Grooves were added to the rolling cylinders, which allowed the iron to be shaped differently.

Expanding Commerce Affects Industry

Beginning in about 1400, world commerce grew and changed so greatly that writers sometimes use the term "commercial revolution" to describe the economic progress of the next three and a half centuries. Many factors helped bring about this revolution in trade. The Crusades opened up the riches of the East to Western Europe. New trade routes were opened. The strong central governments protect and help their merchants. Trading firms, such as the British East India Company, were chartered by governments. Larger ships were built and flourishing cities grew up. With the expansion of trade, more money was needed. Large-scale commerce could not be carried on by barter. Gold and silver from the New World helped meet this need. Banks and credit systems developed. By the end of the 17th century Europe had a large accumulation of capital. Money had to be available before machinery and steam engines could come into wide use for they were costly to manufacture and install. By 1750 large quantities of goods were being exchanged among the European nations, and there was a demand for more goods than were being produced. England was the leading commercial nation, and the manufacture of cloth was its leading industry.

Watt's Steam Engine

In 1763 James Watt, a Scottish mechanic, was asked to repair a model of a Newcomen steam engine. He saw how crude and inefficient it was and by a series of improvements made it a practical device for running machinery.Wheels turned by running water had been the chief source of power for the early factories. These were necessarily situated on swift-running streams. When the steam engine became efficient, it was possible to locate factories in more convenient places.

Coal Mining

A woman pulls her coal up the mine

During most of the industrial revolution women and children and men worked in the coal mines. There were some differences in the jobs men, women, and children preformed in the mines. There weren't any protection laws or limits for the age of child labor. Peter N. Sterns says children made up "30 percent of the workforce in coal mines, by the early nineteenth century... there was substantial utilization of young children as well- in a few cases as young as three, not uncommonly beginning a five or six." Mine owners wanted to cut the cost of labor and children's wages were much lower than adults. Many women would try to get a job for their young children where they worked. One of the things women did on mines was use groups of women that would have to use a windlass, a tool used to move the coal, it consists of a horizontal cylinder, which is rotated by the turn of a crank or belt, to lift coal and workers. Men refused to do such work. Most commonly, women and children would haul tubs of coal, using a rope and chain.

Child labor in factories

Movements to Regulate
Factory owners loved child labor and they supported their reasoning with ideas that it was good for everything from the economy to the building of the children's characters. Parents of the children who worked were almost forced to at least approve of it because they needed the income. This limited the amount of hours children of certain ages could work. Specifically, children 9 to 13 years of age were only allowed to work 8 hours a day. Those 14 to 18 years of age could not work more than 12 hours a day. Children under 9 were not allowed to work at all. Also, the children were to attend school for no less than two hours during the day. Later, in the early 20th century, activists went even further to protect children's rights in labor. Among these figures was Jane Addams, founder of the Hull House. Activists in the U.S. made the government set up the Children's Bureau in 1912. This made it the U.S. government's responsibility to monitor child labor.
